Most people know the broad facts of the Holocaust. What they don't know — and what no documentary or textbook can quite prepare you for — is what it feels like to stand on the streets where it happened. To see where a Jewish community that had been part of Berlin for centuries was systematically dismantled. And to discover the people who, despite enormous personal risk, chose to resist.

This tour explores both sides of that story: persecution and resistance, perpetrators and protectors. Through the places where these events unfolded, we examine how persecution developed, how ordinary lives were transformed, and the choices made by those who decided to resist.

It leaves you with one difficult question: what would you have done?

Places You'll Visit

  • The New Synagogue — Discover why it survived Kristallnacht and the remarkable intervention of a local police officer who refused orders to let it burn.

  • Otto Weidt's Workshop for the Blind — Hear how a factory owner protected blind and deaf Jewish workers, bribed Gestapo officials and risked his own safety to save others.

  • Rosenstrasse — Stand at the site of a rare public protest against Nazi persecution, where women demanded the release of their Jewish husbands.

  • Bebelplatz — Visit the site of the Nazi book burning of 10 May 1933 and the memorial beneath the square.

  • Trains to Life, Trains to Death — Finish at a memorial contrasting the children rescued through the Kindertransport with those deported to their deaths.

What You'll Explore

  • How the persecution of Berlin's Jewish community developed from discrimination and exclusion to deportation and genocide.

  • How a thriving community was systematically dismantled under Nazi rule.

  • The stories of people who chose to protect, resist and defy — and the risks they faced.

  • The Stolpersteine and how individual victims are remembered throughout Berlin.

  • How modern Berlin memorialises the Holocaust and why remembrance continues to matter.
